Jacob R. Billig has represented a wide variety of clients in complex litigation in both Federal and State Courts, real estate development, finance and capital raising, health care and insurance matters. He is an ambitious and creative decision maker, who is result oriented and persistent in meeting his goals.
For over two decades, Jacob has specialized in securing all local and state approvals needed by commercial and residential developers in the Hudson Valley. He has played an integral role in facilitating the approval process for both residential and commercial developers in all aspects of the development process from due diligence on the property, coordination with the technical specialties, presentation of the conceptual plan to the local approval boards, through the final approval process with all local and state agencies that have regulatory jurisdiction. He has also served as attorney for several local municipalities, and currently is the former Town Attorney for the Town of Fallsburg and is now the current Town Attorney for the Town of Liberty.
With extensive medical malpractice and healthcare experience, Jacob served as lead trial counsel in the firm of Dubois, Billig, Loughlin, Conaty & Weisman, a 40 member firm specializing in insurance defense work. He was responsible for overseeing the firm’s most complex cases in the medical and dental malpractice area, litigating in all courts in New York State. Additionally, in his current practice, he represents a national nursing home company in resolving claims in arbitration matters throughout the country.
Jacob also resided in Beijing, China for eighteen months in the early 1990s where he worked with a Silicon Valley startup, building a customer relations and call center operation. He was responsible for providing legal advice to the company, fund raising and overall corporate strategy for the company’s development.
